Battle for the Souls

Battle for souls I heard some noise coming into my ear The echoes of a dying souls Are whispers on the wind A mournful song, A horn of sounds like thorns aloud, Their noiseful resilience are swifter than leopard, Souls of infants yet a dying flesh, As a once lost wonderer, I gaze ear in listening The memories that once burned bright are fading like the light from a dropping star, So let the echoes from my past guide my step into this redemption, And let this fading memories last still, till I reach the cross Till eternity have I vowed Christ to be witnessed Joshua Olagunju ©2023

Just to say thank you

Just to say thank you I know I'm not perfect But you love me anyway You accept every piece and bit And make me smile everyday You picked me up from the mouldy pit, You blessed me abundantly telling me that's just a bit. Thanks for the fear, Thanks for the tears, Thank you so much, many lost years. Thanks to the moon, And thanks to the sun, Thanks for the threats  and lessons of life, Thanks for causing so much strife. I wanted so much to say, For all the dept if I'm to pay. And in all the puzzle if I'm to play But lastly, For the love and for the care, For the peace of mind I have received, I will not but thank you for taking my life.

Our planet survive

Our planet survive Why don't you plant a tree? It will produce fresh air And be a joy for all who see Try to be more aware Of how your actions affect the world And devote yourself to it's care Why don't you sit reminiscing the past Cut aware the dreads, And be normal just for us Teach your children how to grow and plant Buy them seedlings, And show them the way to act Our planet is Alive  Yet she's struggling to breathe Please help her survive War is coming, if you fail to loose the chains of evil  in your heart Politicians will be disgraced  Pastors will be caught in the act, Imam been sentenced Yield to this; Our belly will fight the war of Justice, The tidy road of our throat will sing the anthem of the world War is coming! The nose mask will be useless this time,... Bleeding bone of injustice will fight Run to the South, Korea is at war Run to the north, it will strike you I don't know the time, the hour, the moment, But I'm very certain Tell the farmers to

To the man in Aso rock

To the man in Aso Rock You came with praises, raising the change, And said, receive this great change. And spur your lore and customs, We took up the change and follow you, Politician turned into a soldier again, He raised his riffle and blast the city, Mountain of hunger roars, Hills of petroleum quakes. Dust arose and the land was aflame. I Àkàndé, I'm looking forward,  To a nation resplendent in unity, To a land where no lies loaded the tractors that feed our bellies. To a desolated land of disunity: Olayemi Olagunju Joshua

We have eaten the earth

We have eating the earth The earth will swallow us when we hit our own death We till the land, thinking maybe that will stop him, We open the land and give him seedlings to eat, thinking after death it will bride our way to eternity We watered the land after feeding the land in our wisdom, Perhaps, the land will remember this in our favor, The land wine and dine with us To our utmost surprise, the land refused to eat, The land refused to accept our sacrifices, In the thick sky and the hot sun, The land vomited our offer!  And bring unto us fresh fruits. And when we see the fruit in our wisdom, That it was good, and that it was pleasant to our eyes,  and a tree to be desired to make one wise, We forgot the warnings given to us in the beginning, About earth(lys) We took the advantage, And we did eat Alas! We eat our own death The land accepted no bride, The land return our seedlings in the form of fruits This land through which we fetch our daily food, Will swallow us back, In this knowl

If Eden

If Eden How is it possible to lie in Eden, If sin never entered it-then. Immoralities would have been an alien, Hell to fear, my foot. I remembered Eden today, Heaven forever in my heart beat. So, in fear I beat. In persecution, I beat. In wants, I beat. In rejection I beat. And whenever I saw the apple in hiEdDEN eyes of Eve, I will pluck in the knowledge of the truth To beat, the breath, the life. If sin never enter Eden, I will beat, beat  , beat, breathe The breath of life If Eden Alot of expression in my heart Only He then I rest Joshua Olagunju

Rhythm of a drum(continuation of the traveller)

THE RHYTHM OF A DRUM(OLAYEMI  J.O) At an unknown hour of the night, At our own backyard, close to the seaport. My younger brother and I heard a strange noise coming from the window, We looked into each other's eyes and then the window, As the voice from outside, in a lively allegro, Grew louder in repeating crescendos, We can hear the sound of Bàtá and the voices of strange woman singing, And cutting the hands of our beautiful butterfly into the pit of our colonized pot. There was about twelve women chanting like a church choir, And about six and seven men beating the drum. We stepped out of our room and saw men with gun wounds, We saw infants sorrounded with fire andtheir hot tears almost filled up our colonized pot. We stood amidst the flood of a stinking water, Where mangos and other fruits fell unripe. We had no gun in hour hands, And no canoe to cross to the otherside of the sea, So, we stand still at the dagger point, And join the young ones on the playing ground, Where we pl

ON A STORMING DAY

On a stormy day, I saw a flower standing tall. As rocks quaked in the wind. As elephants scuttled in fear I saw an unquenched flame. As clouds pounced and fled. As trees quivered and shivered. I saw burning fire burning in the rain. As clouds crash, in a lightning flash The skies drum up a beat. Leaving my black in the humble nests, Clapping hands like the birds flapping wings. ©2022  Olagunju Olayemi Joshua

TRAVELLERS

PEN PLANET Travellers   Mourning end of the sea, Walking to the edge of smoke Travellers wait for me! Now that the sun, like a whale swallowed the pot, Now that the ocean beast like Hurricane  Seize to still, seize.. Wait for me! Now that I'm alone,  And can no longer bare dis-cross I will jump to the other side, To journey together with the travelers on their ride,  Since the sea will never die,  I will go, smiling the archaic smile of those that will go and never come back.  #Penplanettv  #penplanetpoems ©Olagunju Olayemi Josh ( April2020poems)
