OLOROMBI & THE IROKO TREE

Long time ago, there was a woman called Olurombi. This woman was  unhappy as she couldn't bare a child for her husband. She tried so many remedies but all to no avail. So she went to a spirit–tree (god) called lroko Oluwere. Iroko was a powerful tree god, people go to him and requested for things they needed from it. At the end of their requests, they will make a vow with the god to give something back as appreciation
When Olurombi got to the tree god, she pleaded with the tree to give her a child. She vowed to return the child back to the powerful tree if her request was granted. Iroko was pleased with the bargain, no one has ever given him a child

Some months passed, Olurombi became pregnant and had a baby girl. She was happy at last. Olurombi named the child Aponbepore meaning “the most beautiful and as red as palm oil”.

Aponbepore grew up into a beautiful teenager but the mother forgot she made a pledge with the tree god. After Iroko have done enough waiting without Olurombi fulfilling her promise, the tree god decided to go to her and redeem his prize. On getting to the house, Iroko gripped Aponbeore’s hand and began to drag her away. The girl and her mother began to cry . The mother ran after Iroko crying and pleading but the god did not pay any attention to her.

Iroko held on to the girl and disappeared. Olurombi cried and pleaded for her child to be returned back to her instead of releasing the girl, lroko replied with a song:

Lead: Everyone made a pledge of a goat

Chorus: A goat, a goat

Chorus: Her child, Aponbepore

Chorus: Janin-janin, lroko, janin-janin

This was how lroko took Aponbepore away forever

Letter to my future wife

To my future wife I found myself thinking about you today. Wondering where you are, what you’re thinking and doing at the moment. Are you Adumadan or Aponbepore? Or the mixture of both? Just want you to know that I'm waiting to know you. I promised to raise my hand amidst the cloud, I promised to blink my eyes out of every shadow of fears, Once I noticed it was you, I have seen the light,  Don't be surprised if I mentioned your name and I know the line on your face So, I may call you by your tribe. I surely know the color of your eyes. But till then, Stay wherever you are and be with me, keep yourself just the same way am keeping myself for you. For I'm still waiting, Waiting for the queen that will sit beside me forever, till death do us...  Waiting for the bone..... and flesh of my flesh Waiting to see we two as one My dear I have kept myself safe in His arm, Cus I know the Earth is not safe for the heart, Though, some years back I was a captive of a large audience, but n
